The one that got away...

This weekend was opening day for fishing season so the -got to catch something hairy or scaly- alarm was going off in Cody. He was going to just take the oldest 2 kids but somehow (Cody bugging me like it was Christmas morning) I got woken up at 6:30 a.m. on a Saturday. I wasn't planning on going so you can imagine how I was reacting but I threw on a hat and we were off to the lake. It was over 70 when we left but it was -3 when we got up there so the girls and I wanted to go after 5 min. Cody gave us a "just wait until you catch one" pep talk and set Ashlyn up. Right after he cast her line she caught the first trout. She was so proud but didn't want to be anywhere near it. It was Mary's turn so Cody cast one out for her and she caught one within 2 min. She was so excited because this was her first fish ever but still didn't want to touch it and was making some pretty cute disgusted faces at the fish.

Jeremy couldn't wait for his turn so while he was prepping for the big catch the girls and I went to pick wildflowers. When we came back Jeremy told me all about the dozen fish that nibbled and stole his bait but still no luck. He didn't end up with a single fish, poor guy. He does have some pretty great stories about the one that was on his line and gave him a big fight but then got away. We left the lake and spent the entire day shooting and mushroom picking and just had a great (filthy) time in the mountains. I'm not grizzly adams and will never be so that was just about all the dirt and possibility of ticks I could handle this year, so don't expect me to camp anytime soon (hint hint dad!). Here are some pictures of the kids from the lake. Jeremy has been "posing" himself for pictures lately as well as wearing this great mountain hat so here they are in all their glory!

My husband the cabinet maker...

I am so proud of Cody! He has always wanted to branch out from home building and become a furniture maker. He makes me tables and things all the time (if only he would make a few hutches that I want) but he doesn't have the tools or the time and the confidence to go with furniture full time. Around our area he wouldn't be able to do it anyway and we would have to move, something I would love but him- not so much. He recently had the chance to build custom cabinets for his cousin and I think they look great! He builds custom cabinets all the time but it's usually for people who have different taste than Cody or I and they choose cabinets that we would not. By that I mean they are just plain, no frills or fancy drawers, basically just the cheapest they can get by with without going to Wal-Mart for cabinets (a.k.a ugly!). This time he got to have fun and really got to play, as close to furniture as it gets for him. He was so cute, he was all excited to put on the "Sun Valley" finish. I'm glad he got to practice so when he makes my cabinets eventually they will be awesome.

Oh, and here is the curtain I finished. One down, 9 to go. It took me two days to make this one and hopefully I can make the other three for the girls room today. Wish me luck!

I got canned- yeahhh!!

I know it sounds silly but I am so excited to have a garbage can finally! We've been without garbage service for 21 long days. After several attempts to get a can I finally have one. It was so frustrating. I would call the garbage service and get the answering machine every time, so I left a message and they called me back a few days later at 7 o'clock at night while we were gone. I told Cody it was his turn to harass them and after 2 more weeks we finally got a call back at 9 last night. I guess they're only open one hour a week, I think they all sit around the phone all day and listen to the poor people plead for garbage service until they decide they've listened to enough cries for help and call back. I'm sure they are going to have fun with all the "presents" I have piled up for them now, that'll teach 'em!

No mom's play group yesterday. I packed all my stuff up and loaded all the kids in the car with snacks and coloring books ready for the long haul and I was the only one there. I deserved that and now I think no one wants to play with me LOL. I did go home and finish the quilt so I achieved my goal for the day. Ashlyn likes it as well as I do, she asked me if we should give it to the baby! If it's that bad then she doesn't want it either I'm sure!

Today the goal is curtains. I'm going to make Ashlyn, Mary, and Kaci curtains for their room, or at least that's the goal. There are 4 windows and one glass door that I need to cover so I should be pretty busy. I could clean the kitchen but windows are more important right?

My first Post...

And hopefully not the last! I can't believe I'm blogging but here goes. Today I've decided to do something crafty. After moving and all the yuck that comes with it I took a little hiatus from all things crafty. Now I can't wait to get my mitts on some paper or fabric or something that's not cardboard related. I've been trying to unpack a box a week, which means I'll never be officially moved in until the year 2020 but it's a start.

While I was unpacking I found a quilt that I started and never finished. I made it for Ashlyn before she was born and now that's she's going to be five in a little over a month I thought I should revive the poor quilt and give it some life finally. It's a sad situation because all it needed was a few machine quilted rows and the edges bound and it would have been finished but I let it sit, and a few places where I didn't remove the pins before storing rusted. I don't care for the colors or pattern now and because it's rusted in spots I like it even less, but with four kids I could definitely use another twin quilt laying around!

I'm going to be really good today and go to my playgroup. It's more of a playgroup for moms than kids where moms get together at the church and work on unfinished projects and let their kids go willy nilly all over the gym. It's supposed to be a scrapbooking group but there are only 3 dedicated scrappers so it's really a "what ever you haven't finished and you just want to come visit group". I signed myself up over a year ago and haven't gone yet... I know, I know, bad group member, but it starts at 10:00 a.m. and I just can't pull myself together by then so there's no way I can pull out my stuff for a project and try to bring that to. Today however is going to be the turning point and I'm going to go and finish the quilt. How fitting to go to the church and quilt anyway, maybe it will give me the push I need to start going even if I do show up an hour late today. I know I would like it if I would just go!
