I’ve mentioned before that we don’t have paid t.v. and normally I don’t miss it. Sure I don’t get to watch Project Runway and my kids are deprived of un-educational cartoons but we still get 6 basic channels on the ol’ bunny ears and that’s just enough to catch a few of my fave shows while I eat ice cream fold laundry on weeknights.
On the weekends I miss it. I miss it because there’s nothing to watch while I eat ice cream feed the baby but OPB shows. How to crochet, how to cook, how to build an old house, how to turn your trash into a beautiful garden. All of which are not my forte`. Then there’s stinking Fons and Porter’s Love of Quilting. They show me sewing machine tricks and new special products just for quilters. They get me excited thinking quilting is so easy. They show me all the tricks and tips to turn this-
Into a nice manageable lap quilt easy enough for someone that doesn’t quilt but really wants to have cute quilts around to make. Here’s the problem Mrs. Fons and Mrs. Porter, some of us don’t need your encouragement. Some of us need to have their rotary cutters and self healing mats revoked. Some of us (okay maybe just me) get angry when things don’t work out like you say even if they tweaked the pattern so much there’s no possible way you could be to blame.
Do you know what that is? No, it’s not a quilt. That my friends is a picture of the world’s largest quilt block. One. Block. I have 4 more just like her. Have I ever mentioned that I suck at math? I have no idea how I’m going to handle this beast once I get it all together. That’s one chubby lap quilt.
I always have Bob Ross to make me feel better. He always tells me "We don't have mistakes here, we just have happy accidents.". One gigantic happy accident. I think I’ll stick with Masterpiece Classics from now on.
Ooh, where'd you get that fabric!?
ReplyDeleteIt's so nice to know that I'm not the only one that needs to put the scissors down. It seems like everytime I try to make something, I end up with about four times more fabric than I should have. My math sucks too.
ReplyDeleteI *LOVE* Bob Ross!!!! He makes me happy.
ReplyDeleteI, also, love your fabric!!!
.... just so you know, my blog in the next week is going to have so many things all because you inspired me!!!
This made me laugh. I've started a couple of quilting "projects" based on that show; thinking it looked so easy and then I'm somehow not quite right with my measurements, or the look is a bit off. LOL!
ReplyDeleteI think it looks awesome! Add one more giant nine patch and there you have it! Love the colors! Don't give up keep going!!
ReplyDeleteYour fabric is beautiful. I remember making a top for my sister that turned out like a tent, that was my last attempt at making my own pattern for grown ups. Thankfully I have two girls, if I make something too big or too small the other one can wear it...or one of the dolls.
ReplyDeleteI love it!!!! You have inspired me to make a disappearing nine patch that size. What a great quilt it would make. Its all in the way you look at it dear.
ReplyDeleteblessings,
jilly
ps. stalking from a little a bit bias
Now you just need to applique some 'happy trees', that was always my favorite Bob Robb-ism. ;)
ReplyDeleteHilarious! So funny.
ReplyDeleteI can't believe you still get 6 channels with your rabbit ears. We don't get any now. Love the "un-educational cartoons"; I see myself quoting you in the future!
You are hilarious! I love the fabric you picked. Good luck finishing your giant quilt.
ReplyDeleteOk, so I know you said you have 4 more... but forget about that for now... could you cut down the middle of each 'column', then also cut from left to right in each 'row'? Basically, just making each square of fabric into 4 smaller squares, but not cutting apart the seams. You'd have 4 blocks already pieced together, 8 rectangles of 2 fabrics pieced together, and the 4 corners. You could mix and match the rest together to look more quiltly? Then I'd just do another giant block on the back of the lap quilt :) Just an idea.. I hope it made sense
