Big Bad Bermudas

So I like to sew stuff. A lot. But I've never ever in my entire life ever made cut off shorts. I know you're thinking "How hard is that?". For me, very. I always think they look like, well, cut off jeans. I tried my hand at it the other day out of necessity more than anything else and can I tell you...

I kind of like them. Be kind, they're my first attempt.

They were kind of growing on me until Ashlyn put them on and one leg is longer than the other. It has to be Ashlyn because I know I measured twice and cut once. Oh well. On to version #2 I guess. Is it so hard to cut off jeans or is that just me?

  2. I think they are cute. I need to try making some for me, because I hate shorts. Maybe when my machine isn't broken anymore, but by then it won't be short season:)

  3. They look good to me! Maybe you need to measure Ashlyn's legs and make them custom to her legs. :-)

  4. My hubby's tailor has to accommodate for one of his legs being longer than the other by only 1/2" or so whenever she hems up new trousers for him. This makes a huge difference down
"along the ground," of course, and where they hang at the back of his shoe. Cute Bermudas, girl!

  6. Cute! I love the "peek" of fabric at the bottoms! I made cut-off shorts in high school, and sewed lace around the bottom... I wouldn't wear them now (not that they'd fit), but back then I thought they were super-cute!

And, who cares if one leg is longer than the other (as long as it is less than 1/2 inch or so), we are so rarely just standing still, feet together... usually we're running, playing, and living in our clothes. : )

  7. these are super cute! I made a pair the other day with a ruffle using the denim I cut off! I loved the turn out and so did my 5 year old! I'll have to try your take on it next!

  8. Hey, another BBB - but so different from my comment I just made on your pending BBB. Those are cute! I agree though, cut offs are difficult. I am not nearly as patient or talented as you. . .

  9. It is not just you. It is hard to cut off jeans. I ruin it every time. haha. These looks super cute though. Love that bit of fabric on the inside.

  10. Does Ashlyn wibble-wobble when she walks? :)

The legs both look the same to me and SO VERY CUTE! Definitely worth a Take 2.

Oh, and jeans are also very hard for me to cut. Don't like hemming them or repairing them. Just too thick!

  11. I think they are super cute! How did you do the inside of the leg or were the pants already lined? Regardless they are adorable!

  13. I love them!! So cute! I need to try that next. I just finished making my girls skirts from their holey jeans. (Take out the inner seam and sew fronts together and backs together) Have you ever done that before? It turned out WAY cute.
Anyway, thanks for sharing your idea, that's next because we all know my girls will be wearing out another pair of jeans soon! :)
