Jazz hands

Wednesday Ashlyn and her other Jazz 2 classmates had a dance routine to perform at the county fair so we hitched up our wagon and away we went.

Ashlyn did a great job and their little group (3 girls to be exact) managed to win 1st place and got some cashola for their dance team and will compete at the state fair.  One of the perks to living where we live is that they were the only group for their age range so they automatically got it.  She still thinks it’s pretty darn special and so do we. I can’t believe she danced in front of that many people. We can’t go to state but Ashlyn found comfort in the coupon for a free mini pizza she got at the end.

My favorite thing about the fair has to be the shaved ice not to be confused with a snow cone.  Snow cones are not the same.  Like pancakes will never be as good as waffles.  The kids loved them, even Kennedy got a bite or two from Ashlyn and the bits of mine that didn’t have flavoring.

After signing up for every free thing we came across and nabbing 6 free t-shirts the kids got to ride the Ferris wheel.  If you look really closely you can see Cody, Mary, and Kaci- hi guys!

I’m not feeling good at all (no I’m not expecting) and can’t stand up really so I’m thinking of taking up jewelry making.  I think I can wing it in a semi sitting position, I think.  We’ll see!  I have a few pieces of jewelry I’ve been trying to make since last October so maybe I’ll finally finish them.  Have a great weekend!

You might be a redneck…

 tractor

If you wash your tractor at the car wash.  Only in Eastern Oregon and any other towns that boast a population of just over 2,000 can you get away with this.  I’d like to see someone do this in New York!  I’m all for it though,  I would rather see a nice shiny one than a dirty one any day- just wish it wasn’t my only view from out my front window.   I have a sudden urge to sing “She thinks my tractor’s sexy”.

Just my random share for today, can you tell I’m procrastinating something ;).

Falling in love with a loaf.

panda-bread1

I saw this post today about panda bread via Ohdeedoh and the 5 year old girl in me started plugging in her easy bake oven. I have to make this! I’m not a fan of green tea (lets just say my stomach isn’t) so I will probably use food coloring instead. Panda bears were my absolute favorite animal growing up so I think that has something to do with it too.

I might have to be a complete show off for the first day of school and make some panda bread sandwiches… oh I can see them calling me for every homemade treat this year ;).

If you want to make some the original recipe is here and needs to be converted to Fahrenheit and cups. Not that big of a deal for something so stinking adorable. I’m going to use my favorite go to bread recipe and food coloring. Ah, good ol’ red dye #40.

I’m off to soccer games and getting ready for an ice cream party, dance classes, and more soccer tomorrow. It never ends. Have a great bread baking Monday!

My goal - fluffy tread

My bath mat is finished! I didn’t need to make a new bath rug because I already had one so I just souped up my old one. It was worn and frumpy and in need of a make over anyway plus the fact that it was driving me nuts that it didn’t fit. Every time I opened the bathroom door it would scrunch the rug. I hate scrunched rugs, it’s right up there with popping your knuckles in annoyance. 03bathmat

I decided to hack up the old rug and make it fit. The bathroom is brown and I wanted a nautical theme kind of so I’m trying to work the brown in. I cut the border off, added a brown polka dot border and added rows of gathered honey bun strips (Moda Neptune). I tried to make the brown go with the Neptune because I love Neptune, I’m not sure the color combination works but I like it. That’s it. I didn’t follow the tutorial I mentioned before, I just did my own thing. In fact there is nothing similar other than they both have fabric on them.

My original thought was that I wanted the ruffles to be like fluffy tread and that’s what it reminds me of so I’m pretty happy with it. Plus it fits!

Off to 2 soccer games. I’m still in my pajama pants (yes it’s after 3:00) so I better get cracking or my Christmas tinker bell pants might have to make their public debut. I can’t let that happen. Have a great Thursday!

Reason #256 why my kids are the best.

They consistently make me breakfast in bed.  I mean all the time.  Not every day but at least once a month I get woken up to a gaggle of children giggling and trying their very best not to spill anything.  Some times several days in a row.

Today’s cuisine was luke warm mint chocolate water, cold burnt toast with butter, and cold peach oatmeal which I think was made with water and then thinned with water all served on our finest first dishware and Christmas plate with lovely hand written notes.

01Breakfast

I usually choke down what I can but today I woke up not feeling well at all, I have a splitting headache and I was up with it all night so I just wasn’t that hungry.  Luckily Kaci was and ate a piece of the toast and Jeremy ate the rest.  Some day I’m going to miss this, and the fake yums!

Another peek…

I have a ton of things I’m supposed to do today so naturally I’m taking pictures of paint chips instead.  You have to do what you have to do.

A handful of people I know expressed interest in my paint colors and even though they don’t comment I know they read so this one is for you my silent friends and family ;).

I don’t like warm colors, I think they look great in other homes but they make me feel depressed to live in it.  Taupe and mossy greens just about kill me.  I don’t get it either but I like stark white with maybe a nice bold accent wall.  So I really have nothing to show you because we changed this…

Pre-moving picture compliments of one Cody Baxter. The floors are clean now but I still wouldn’t lick them ;)

To this- Atrium white.  The picture is a little dark so the colors aren’t as grey as they appear, I haven’t found my “happy place” for good lighting yet.  The white makes me happy.

0001Paint

To shake it up a bit I went against my hospital white nature and painted the kitchen and dining room (the room on the far right with the window in the picture) Amaryllis Yellow.  I wanted Pottery Barn’s Soleil but the only place we have to mix paint here couldn’t do it so I chose the other.  I love it.  It’s buttery and until the sun hits it just right it doesn’t look yellow at all.  So I really “unpainted”.  There’s nothing wrong with the blue it was before at all, it’s just not me and since we needed to paint some walls Cody sheet rocked we just painted it all.

We haven’t tackled any other rooms but the girls room upstairs and it’s pink.  We’re going to break it up with that stuff, I can’t think of the name for it right now, that’s wood and goes half way up the wall- white- with chair rail so only the top half will be pink.  A little piece of Cody’s house building soul just died because I can’t remember the name.

That’s enough house talk , back to crafting and ignoring my calendar!  My bath mat is coming along very nicely and I’ll show that off next.  Have a great Monday.

Home sweet Home

So you want to see my new house?  How about a peek?  I will not show anyone, even if you bring me cookies and ding dongs, the inside yet until I at least have more than a trail in the boxes put away.  I might be swayed by some pistachio pistachio ice cream... no not even that would get me to open my front door right now.  It's a mess but when isn't moving that way.  So here's what it looked like in April before we moved in.

00003house

The only difference between then and now is I hung my flowers and tomatoes on the porch and all the green grassy stuff is dead.  So as you can see we have our work cut out for us.  We knew what we were in for before we moved and thankfully it was already started so when it's actually ours we'll dig in big time. I hate to think what it looked like before the previous family started because I know they did a ton of work.  I just shuddered.

Should be a fun adventure- I'm kidding.  I'm more the "straight out of the box" kind of girl.  I don’t fix things, I make them so it’s a good thing Cody is game because he has a lot of work to do ;).

I'm going to miss this house, even if only for it’s skin.byehouse

(Raising my hot chocolate mug) Here’s to new adventures and central A.C.!

Revisiting…

Cody and I had a conversation last night (well lets just say I had a conversation with myself while he was sitting in the room) while he was reading my last post.  I get self conscious and girly when he reads my blog in front of me so I ramble about m&m’s and soccer but somewhere in our conversation he said he thinks I need to post something crafty or I’ll lose my readers.

What he doesn’t understand is that crafty people are awesome.  Too awesome.  Not only have I not lost a reader since my last craft post who knows how long ago, I’ve gained some even with a head disease shot.  So that just goes to show you that women are better than men.  It just does.

This post has nothing to do with losing anything or Cody, it’s just that my desire to create is bigger than my desire to blog my face so I thought I’d share what I’m going to be up to while Kennedy takes a nap.

I was revisiting my Christmas list that I blogged about last year and remembered that I wanted to make a patchwork bathmat for my grandma.  Well it just so happens that one of my bathrooms (I just said one of- first time I’ve been able to say that!) has a random sized bathmat need.  So I’m going to be cutting a rug.  I broke my machine- again, so I have to pick something easy because I have to use Curvy.  We don’t get along.  She’s great for straight “sewing for dummies” stitching but she can’t handle curves.  Go figure.

I’ll share the finished project when I get a towel to back it with.  Have a great Friday and I promise the next time I post will be completely leprosy free too!

Leprosy, how becoming!

Just a friendly reminder to Lysol your cell phones. I am a fanatic when it comes to hand washing but you know in moving you’re digging up stuff, mucking around in other peoples previous living space, not to mention all the cleaning chemicals that go with all of that so somewhere in there I contracted some fantastic face disease.  Well not really a disease, I don’t know what it is, but it looks great on me right?

leprosy

Maybe it’s the 50 layers of make up I cake on everyday festering on my phone as well, all in all every phone in my house got the ol’ swab down and q-tip in alcohol detailing.  Thankfully that picture was taken a few days ago by yours truly without make up so my cheek is looking much better today.  YUCK!

20,160 + minutes without internet

I survived 2 entire weeks without internet and 1 week without a home phone.  That would have killed me dead about 2 months ago, or at least I thought at the time that it would have. You know what though,  I really started to like not being at the beckon call of whomever rang for me these last few weeks so if I don’t answer my phone for a while you know why ;).

I had over 1000 blog posts in my reader!  Did I really read that many in 2 weeks before? I just had to delete most of them and start over.  I don’t have that many extra minutes in my day to catch up.  I have some serious internet evaluating to do… anyhoo I had a couple of projects I held out on and scheduled posts to show them while I was away, but when I got on the internet last night I noticed that nothing posted and they just disappeared.  Here I thought you were being entertained and amazed by my talents but no, blogger ate them.  I’m a serial deleter and I delete everything, mostly pictures, after I post or print them so I don’t have the pictures anymore and I have absolutely no idea where those projects are packed away so I teased you once again.  I’ll have to show off some time next week when I start seriously unpacking.  Here I go teasing again, but I’m getting my craft on Tuesday so sometime soon, hopefully very soon I’ll have something fun to show for it.

Ah the joys of the internet- a wealth of information and frustration and a great place to burn time you don’t have. Oh how I have missed you!  Kind of.
